12 year old Gwichyaa Gwich’in /Vuntut Gwich’in Lexine Demientieff of Fort Yukon Alaska she is the daughter of Jadon and Bernadette Demientieff. Grand daughter Betty (Walter) Flitt; Bernard (Melanie) Hornsby. of Louisiana New Orleans.
Luke and Sandra Demientieff; great granddaughter of Frank and Mary Turner of Holy Cross; and Luke snd Alive Demientieff. She’s the great great grand daughter of Marcis Moses of the Old Moses Clan. Lexine has been advocating for the animals and for Alaska for years. She’s one of 16th plaintiffs that is suing the State of Alaska for their involvement in climate injustice and she stands firmly with her people to protect the calving grounds of the porcupine caribou herd and the Gwich’in way of life.
She attended the youth climate rally in New York and spoke of the changes. She recently was featured in the “American Girl” book and continues to speak for the land, water , animals and their way of life.
In 2018 Lexine received the Northern Center’s Youth of the Year award, for her dedication to climate justice for her generation, and speaking out to #protecttheArcticRefuge.
